About us

Hire A Hubby was founded back in 1994 in Melbourne, by a man named Richard Grey. He’d always been a skilled handyman around the home, and one day was fixing a set of shelves while his wife Cheryl and a friend looked on.

The friend said she wished her husband had the skills and time to complete all the tasks round her house that needed doing, and jokingly asked if he could hire Richard for a while.

Richard and Cheryl saw the opportunity behind the joke, and thus the idea for Hire A Hubby was born!

The business launched in New Zealand four years later, offering a diverse range of home repair, renovation and maintenance services to Kiwis. ‘Hubbies’ do it all – from the front gate to the back fence, and everything in between.

Our mission is to provide total customer satisfaction through excellent service, and by recognising and adapting to the ever-changing needs of our clients. We’re guided in this task by the expert leadership of our skilled management team:


Greg Barclay, Chairman

Greg specialises in mergers/acquisitions and corporate financing (including debt and equity raising), and has an interest in project commercialism and venture capital. He also has extensive experience in franchising. A law graduate of Canterbury University, Greg has a post-graduate business diploma from the University of Auckland and is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors. 

At present, Greg is a director of Auckland law firm Claymore Partners, and is an experienced commercial lawyer and business advisor. He’s Chairman of the Experience Group, on the board of New Zealand Cricket, and has held director roles for a number of New Zealand companies including NZX listed Smartpay Limited and Pacific Forest Products (New Zealand’s largest log and export marketing company).

Mike Donovan, Director

Mike is a Member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, a Member of the Institute of Directors In New Zealand, and a past Member of the Australian Society of Accountants. He has a bachelor’s degree in Business from Charles Sturt University in Australia.

In addition to his role with Hire A Hubby, Mike is Chairman of Oceania Broadcast Limited, a director of SAECOWilson Limited, and an independent director of the Auckland Rugby Football Union Inc. Until recently he was the Managing Director and majority shareholder of Motion Industries Limited.

Craig Wilson, Director

A graduate of both Canterbury and Waikato Universities, Craig holds degrees in Forestry Science and Science respectively. He’s a Director in Hikumutu Vines Limited, which is relevant to his interests in the wine, forestry and horticulture industries. Hikumutu Vines currently supplies grapes to Sileni Winery in the Hawkes Bay.

Until recently, Craig was also a Director and part-owner of Timberlands Limited – one of New Zealand’s largest independent forest management companies. He also operated within Timberlands as part of their senior management team, specialising in Operations and Marketing.

Logan Sears, CEO

Logan is an independent business mentor with a strong focus on business systems and structure, and has significant senior management experience in both corporate and private sector business.

Logan joined Hire A Hubby as Director and Shareholder in 1998. Previously he was General Manager of Beresford Associates, responsible for the divestment programmes for Lion Nathan, DB Group and Freightways Group with a portfolio value of $500 million.

Logan has also consulted to the credit recovery divisions of BNZ, WestpacTrust and ASB, specialising in business units, and was also Managing Director of New Zealand and Pacific of J.L.W.Transact, the largest real estate company in the world. He is married with two children.
